Kings of Bushwick - Newspaper clipping from film

LOS REYES DE BUSHWICK

The small community of Bushwick has thrived recently because of a few good men.

Men of honor return to their neighborhood after serving their country in Afghanistan are well received and appreciated for their courage. Master Gunnery Sergeant Rico De La Rosa (48), with over twenty years serving in the Marine Corps is now President of the "With Honor Foundation," a charity created to help fallen soldiers, war veterans, soldiers with disabilities as well as people in need of financial assistance. Lcp. Louis Sanchez (20) is instrumental in overseeing checks and balances. He graduated with honors and majored in finance. Lcp. Primero Soto (20) is an up and coming amateur boxer, soon to be professional. He is helping the youth in the neighborhood with inspirational speaking and leading by example. (20) Lcp. Benny Lezcano (20) has been instrumental in community organizing and volunteer efforts to rid the neighborhood of graffiti and maintaining a safe environment for young and old. Antonio Castro (20) is of Cuban descent and has been awarded a "Purple Heart" medal for saving lives on the battlefield. Lcp. Castro has aspirations to build and oversee a neighborhood clinic. These "Men of Honor" are being honored and deservedly so. They will always be an example to all. After many years of extremely high crime rates, the community of Bushwick, Brooklyn seems to finally be getting it right. "I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly. All of which has helped shaped the person I am today. Giving back to the neighborhood by helping people and giving them hope, guidance, as well as providing a full proof plan that works. This shows them that we are committed!" says Master Gunnery Rico De La Rosa. It takes a village to work towards real change. The results speak for themselves. Assemblyman Jose Espinoza speaks very highly of these men. Mr. Espinoza believes that all of this wouldn't happen if it wasn't for them. He says, "these men have proudly served their country and now they are doing the same for their community. It's amazing." Another local leader of the community, Dona Teresa Cruz, a well respected woman was quoted as saying, "I can't say that I did not have my doubts but after seeing all of their efforts and the hope they bring, you can't help but embrace something that good." There is no stopping these "Kings of Bushwick" from doing what is right. These proud men are making us proud to be a part of the community of Bushwick. The future is brighter than ever.
