Action On Film International Film Festival-Press Release

Short Drama on Crime and War to Screen in July
"Kings of Bushwick," a film about five men returning home from Afghanistan, will screen at Pasadena's Action on Film Festival in late July
Pasadena, CA -- "Kings of Bushwick" is the story of five Brooklyn Marines returning home from Afghanistan. The short drama will showcase at the seventh annual Action on Film Festival in Pasadena, California July 22-30, 2011. Throughout the nine day celebration, AOF will screen more than 600 short and feature films while also hosting a number of dinner parties, celebrity events, and the renowned Action on Film awards show.
In "Kings of Bushwick," mastery gunnery sergeant Rico De La Rosa comes across four young men from Bushwick, Brooklyn. Hailing from Bushwick himself, De La Rosa recruits the young men for his own operation. After returning home, the Marines form a non-profit foundation headed by De La Rosa himself. Although the Bushwick community stands behind the men, Special Agent Medina is not convinced that these Marines - particularly De La Rosa - are a blessing.
The inspiration for the film came from director Angelo Lopez's own experiences. "Growing up in Bushwick, I met a gentleman who manipulated and controlled a group of teenagers. They were disciplined, loyal, and at times misguided," says Lopez.
Festival creator, Del Weston, says, "'Kings of Bushwick' is a great story that highlights the relationship between power and influence. It shows how easy it is to get involved with the wrong people, and the importance of listening to your own gut."
Angelo Lopez's "Kings of Bushwick" will screen at the seventh annual Action on Film Festival in Pasadena, California July 22-30, 2011. Featuring screenings, dinners, red carpet events, and the AOF awards show, the festival and celebration will attract thousands of talented filmmakers, celebrities, and fans alike.
